When We Collide We Come Together
'Cuz If We Don't We'll Always Be Apart
I'll Take A Bruise And Know You're Worth It They say the most unholy thing to witness is the loss of a pup. This is not true, for she had witnessed the unsanitary creatures of the world entranced in their own madness to the point that not even the forest could call to them. They were creatures now, not made in the Gods image but an unholy imitation designed to insult the Gods and infuriate them further and although they looked as her kin looked they were not-breath within. So looking down at the lifeless form of a youngster feared her not and despite its festering shell she dipped her nose and touched noses with the little form for one last time and hoped its souls found safety in the great paws of Lunae. She turned tail and headed downwind of the body, a great relief and feeling of right washed over her like the night sky as she heard the souls of the pup join together and depart. She could not see them yet her hearing never failed and it was a pleasure and a great sadness to witness this beautiful journey home.
It was perhaps two or three miles detour from her original path when she caught wind of freshwater which encouraged her to head east towards the river. Normally wolves would not hunt in the waters as this land belonged to the great bear but desperate times called for desperate measures during a winter this brutal. It had been three days since her last meal and even then it was nothing more than a frozen burrow-rat so the promise of fresh fish was enticing even if it did mean she would have to find an opening around the water’s border. You see, physically Etska was a charming female with strong but feminine features and a thick silver pelt that glimmered under moon-high, her voice was thick and melodic as any birds song yet the main flaw was a physical handicap that often led others to look down on her. Her forepaws were silver as her body was but the toes was mangled with deep pink gashes nearing the bone and not a single claw remained so digging at the ice was an impossible plan.
She reached the river with little difficulty yet to her rotten luck the entire surface was thick with ice. Her ears flattened as she cautiously stalked the rivers edge, amber eyes never leaving the surface hoping to find a weak spot but alas there was none to be found. Hunger gnawed at her stomach as she settled on her rump then leaned onto the snowy ground in frustration. This Winter would prove vital to her survival. This summer past had been her seventh year and when the summer bloomed she would be into her eighth year in this life and without the protection of the domain out here her world-soul was hanging in balance. She would have to be patient for now and ignore the aches of fatigue and hunger even if for a little longer.
Hour passed before she saw any form of life and to her luck it was a lone bear coming to hunt. Her ears perked up but she dared not move to startle the creature as it started its hunt. The bears had been blessed with the nose of the wolves and she was sure it had already picked up her scent yet decided she was no threat and continued to hunt the fish. Its long deathly claws broke the ice with ease when a glimmer appeared below the surface - like a pro, it was a one-slash kill for this hungry male but he had the decency to move on to devour his prey leaving Etska with but a memory and the delicious afterscent of fresh meat. She waited just enough time to make sure the bear was gone before padding gently over the ice to the hole. The fish had swam back to safety but with any hunt it was a waiting game. The results would be worth it.
The darkness was upon her before the fish came near the surface but it was just the right time for her to make her long-anticipated move and thank the Gods she caught one! He was a healthy-sized trout no doubt due to the bountiful supply of food beneath the surface the fish had all year round. She carried her prey to the shore and sheltered herself from the scavengers before she tucked into her meal. She thanked Lunae for the gift and offered a piece of the liver in gratitude then quickly polishing off the carcas she began to ponder. Life on her own was not so lonely when she could hear the forest yet she longed to sing with the pack once more as she did as a pup. Feeling rather satisfied and happy she decided to express her happiness to the heavens and sing for them the song of the Wolfe.

[bg=000000][atrb=width,500,true][atrb=border,0,true] A thin layer of mist enclosed over the forest in a haze. His steel gaze penetrated through the embers of afternoon darkness, for even yet the golden globe had not hidden behind the clouds; though soon it did. Night still held its stronghold over the Eye of Abyss, although the soft rippling and crackling of a creek far off was easily heard over the other damask intercourses of sound. Nostrils flared as he released a parchment of carbon into the atoms, then slowly inhaling oxygen he returned the same proposition. Naturally his broad chest rose and fell gently along with each inhale and exhale. Through the Winter tapestry of cover, he came to exclude his eyes over the quiet and eerie scenery; in secret awe of what he came to pull into his gaze. A thick mass of timber around him and already, the brute’s thick pelt had become a shining beacon of beauty as the moon’s rays caressed each blessed hair.
Ephraim inclined his head as his rather sensitive nose took short, gentle whiffs of the vaporized fog. A scent lingered, sweet and seductive in the air. A low grunt sounded deeply within his throat as his thick legs took two smooth strides forward out of sheer instinct; though control over his natural impulse was soon gained subsequent to this action. His breathing expelled now in quiet breaths, surrendering into the atmosphere as inaudible. Still, his ears strained forward to catch the sound of delicately placed paws brushing ever so lightly as they made contact amongst the hardened ground; though the whooshing undulation of the creek seemed to be fighting for dominance over the other resonance of the vicinity. The scent of the female grew stronger and more intoxicating as the male pursued his pace rather swiftly across the stiff floor below him. Nobody would believe that a predator with such mass could wield such dexterity. He was of massive size –a giant amongst canines- and was graced with muscles and a build fit for a male.
And then he stopped. Although he seemed to be absolutely and utterly motionless, deep breaths were still being pulled into globular nostrils. The scents of nature affected him in no way whatsoever, though when the scent of the female entered his nostrils –untainted by the wind-, it encouraged movement once more. Cautiously, the brute inhaled once more, dissecting the mixed smells that came to him. Muscular limbs stimulated underneath his enormous chassis, carrying the wolf’s massive form across the terrain until he finally saw her sitting a few years away from him on the shore. He did not move, did not breathe as he halted completely. His regal skull rose proudly as caudal appendage relaxed, glacial blue eyes staring forth with masculine confidence. The rays of the moon highlighted the scars over the male’s eye, though it would likely strike fear into any that were to behold it. Then he heard it; a beautiful, feminine song that rose and echoed in the dark sky. He felt the joy and thankfulness as his eardrums hungrily drank in the tones. Before he knew it, his voice had joined hers; a low, deep howl that complimented hers perfectly. He sang with her; two complete strangers in perfect harmony, sitting several feet away from one another without so much as a single introduction. Yet, he did not complain; he couldn't, especially when there was not a single negative comment to be made about the bliss of the moment.

When We Collide We Come Together
'Cuz If We Don't We'll Always Be Apart
I'll Take A Bruise And Know You're Worth It
Her throat vibrated softly with her melody, in this simple song she could envision herself dancing amongst the stars with the spirits of her ancestors and prey rejoicing in the coming of Spring then her voice trailed softly into another pitch, something unheard of to any who did not know her intimately. To the other animals this was known as a heart song - each one original to the wolfe that can sing it. It was original in the sense that every one of her kind was born with it but it matured as they did sounding each life’s passion in every note, each sorrow and joy and also love and anger. The Heart Song was heard only when something wonderful was happening or even away to happen even if they didn’t know it… and more often than not this was the tune that attracted a mate. Her voice dipped as the low howl of her new companion joined ear with hers and they sang as one for all to hear. She stopped only when the world grew silent around them and she had a chance to set her eyes on her duet partner.
“You have a strong voice.”
Upon setting eyes on him, she was drawn to the shocking blue eyes that demanded her undying attention. They were rigid and defined in shape but held the promise of softer tones within much like that of nursing she-wolf - compassionate but ferocious to those who would oppose her - with a few deep scarring down his left brow to the start of his muzzle. Had she not heard his singing, she would be intimidated but by her law she was compelled to trust those who would sing with her rather than attack her during. Her body was unmoving though her ears danced uncontrollably with the thrill of the meeting. Eventually she lifted herself from the ground and lowered her head in defence, not letting her eyes escape his. At the time she could only make assumptions but her gut told her he felt in a position of power despite not being on his turf… his scent of other wolves convinced her at first-sight that he was not a loner but not a beast to be reckoned with.
“… I can bargain that our song can count as a spirit introduction but names are what bind our minds together. Etska is my name.” She was not a young wolf so she was very much past the ‘rolling over’ stage when most females would lay before a large male and pray for mercy but nor was she stupid enough to show fang to a much larger brute without reason. Her toes shuffled beneath her, the bared scars beneath her fur feeling the nights chill approaching rapidly. She would not reach the Domain by nightfall for sure especially if she was pursued. “I’m also curious to why you would come to the Abyss… it’s not everyday I stumble across a pack-lander in this area. Why did you come?” Her tail twitched questioningly as she observed his expressions carefully. It was no business of hers to ask why he was here but it was a tactful question to his intentions towards her. If he obliged and answered truthfully, she could put her mind to ease that he was not merely chasing tail and even if he was she at least had the chance to politely decline. If he refused she could only assumed the worst and fight or flee. She couldn’t trust somebody that wouldn’t trust her.

[bg=000000][atrb=width,500,true][atrb=border,0,true] Ephraim’s Heart Song swelled from deep within his vibrant throat, filtering past loosely closed fangs and echoing off of the timbers that surrounded the waters before them. Each tune the two wolves sang was completely individual and dissimilar in its separate tale; yet when sung together, they seemed to melt into other another and form an everlasting harmony that would never fade from the massive male’s memory. Every moment of joy, sorrow, anguish, fear, and anger in the Alpha’s life played in the notes of his melody; causing his voice to change in pitch according to the emotion. He wasn’t sure how long they sang together as one, but when it ended and silence again took complete supremacy over the terrain, a clear voice gently shattered the quiet.
”You have a strong voice.”
”Thank you, friend. Your voice is beautiful.” |
[/b] Thin lids parted to expose glacial spheres as thick cords of muscle in the beast’s neck flexed in order to turn his gaze upon the owner of his duet partner. Warm amber eyes mingled with the icy blue of his own, stealing his attention for a solid two seconds before he permitted himself to quickly sweep his stare over the rest of his companion. She was still much smaller than he, though she was built more solidly than some females. However, her features were still soft and feminine; though it was easy to tell that she had a certain ferocity to her if messed with. She seemed to be sizing him up as well, which did not bother him. This was a common occurrence upon two animals meeting; both wolves’ observations neither probing nor discourteous. Her rounded ears twitched as she lifted herself from the ground, her stance defensive. He couldn’t say this truly offended him. After all, he was an unknown giant that had encroached upon her private moment; he couldn’t blame her for being a little distrustful. Intent tympanums caught her name as she spoke it, causing him to mentally repeat it over and over again; memorizing each syllable and imprinting it into his brain. ”Etska.”[/b] He repeated in a husky murmur, testing the name on his tongue before he rose from his powerful haunches. ”My name is Ephraim.”[/b] He spoke in his naturally deep baritone; a charming voice that fit well with his face. His gaze instinctually dropped as she shuffled them in the ground beneath her, causing him to realize the terribly scarred paws. He was naturally curious as to how she got them; though her speech distracted him as he returned his cerulean stare to her amber voids. ”Even the most devoted leader occasionally needs time away from his pack; even if it is only for a few hours. Since I was a pup, the Abyss has always been my favorite place to get away.”[/b] He explained, the corners of black lips curling in a kind smile. ”What about you? Do you come here often?”[/b] His inquiry was casual, though it was obvious that he was interested in her answer.
