Skylark is thinking. "Skylark is talking to you, so shut up." "Others are talking." Skylark had just closed her eyes not a minute before, and already she was dreaming the worst dream she had ever had. She was dreaming that she was in a meadow. Everything was peaceful, everything was normal, and then suddenly, she was opening her eyes and they were dark blue and she could see. And she saw horrible things. Her mother falling to her doom by Skylark's push; her father lying on the floor, bloodied, where the red liquid spattered onto Skylark's claws, and the worst of all, seeing her sister being engulfed in flames that sprouted from Skylark's fur and agonized her into waking. The dark, unrelenting depth of waking. But at least she was used to it. Skylark had no intention of going back to sleep now. The nightmare would only weave itself into her sleep, and she'd just wake up agonized and burning, thinking I cannot go back to sleep. The nightmare will only come back. Redundant nonsense. She pawed around a bit, searching for the exit, and silently padded out of the den. Once she had pawed around a bit and found enough room to stretch, she did, flexing everything from her muzzle to her tail-tip. She needed some exercise, anyway. What harm could a night walk do? Skylark needed not to sniff and paw around like she had earlier, she was less groggy and her brain was now functioning enough to know her surroundings as well as any seeing wolf could. She pondered briefly for a place to walk to, and decided on the Avery River. The flowing rapids would soothe her ruffled fur and calm her nerve. She could just hear the noise now...whsssh...whsssh...Skylark lost herself in the noise for a moment, relishing in the thought of peace and calming sounds. But the moment had to pass. Skylark shook herself out of her dream, and moved toward the Avery River to make it a reality. She sniffed around a bit to make sure she wasn't followed, and stalked off toward the river. Grass sprung up under her pads, and a refreshing breeze blew through her fur, chilling and warming her at the same time. As she walked, the ground became wetter and grittier, until it gave way to the cold, cooling water lapped around her paws. She backed up a bit onto a wet slab of smooth stone, and lay down in a sitting position. She let the breeze pull back her fur in the gentlest way possible, the slow current of the river splashing the stone she sat upon with a thin layer of water, wetting her pads and soothing her paws. Finally. Skylark thought as the wind shifted into a different direction, blowing her face fur a bit forward now. Peace. Silence. Bliss. Skylark sighed, finally erasing the memories of her nightmares from her current state of mind, and feeling happiness in the solitude. She didn't close her eyes, after all, it would do nothing, and appeared to be staring at the presence in front of her. Whatever that was. She turned toward the sound of the river flow, and drank a small gulp of the clear, cool, water, relieving her stress even more than it possibly could have before. She raised her head back to the light gale, which 'whsssh'ed through her fur. She risked a smile. All thoughts of anything that didn't have something to do with this moment right now was blanked from her mind. All she could think about was the pure happiness she was feeling right now. But, alas, this left an opportunity for an interruption. [/scrolly] |
