Through the quiet morning mists, the sound of sloshing water ripped through like a clash of thunder. Waterbirds startled, and hurled themselves into the air with loud cries. And any who didn't hear him could clearly see the lithe black wolf striding out into the middle of the swamp. Half-Moon couldn't, for the life of him, be stealthy. Even when he was trying to be. He slogged, noisily through the swamp land. He plowed through the chest high water, his paws squishing in the soft mud, like a bull elk through underbrush. He might as well have announced his presence to the entire wetland.
He strode out to the very middle of the muddy channel, and stuck his snout in the water, and breathed it in. Immediately he realized his mistake, and leaped up, gasping and blowing out water. "Okay, let me try that again." He thrust his black and white head back in and snapped around. Anyone watching would've thought he'd gone absolutely mad. But Half-Moon was merely trying to catch a fish - in his own... unique way.
He lifted his head to catch a breath once more, then plunged his face back into the icy water. This time he opened his blue eyes. All he saw was a muddy whorl, bits of grass floating by his nose. He couldn't see beyond that. No fish. He waited, his mouth slightly open to catch them. Half-Moon's mind soon began to wander. He wasn't cut out for waiting very long for anything. I wonder what the fish do when the water freezes in winter? Hmmm, are fish smart? Do they know when winter's coming? Do they get cold? They don't have any fur, so they must get cold. Half-Moon was so caught up in his imaginings, he likely would've drowned himself, if he hadn't been interrupted.
Half-Moon jumped up at a sound, water dripping out of his nose. "Hello?" he called, looking toward the bank. He tried to catch a whiff of whatever it was, but he still had water in his nose. He didn't see anyone straight off. Probably a bird or something, he decided, after scanning the gently swaying grasses. So he stuck his nose back into the swamp water.

Renn was happily dozing away, large grey head resting on slim, yet musculed legs. Teal colored eyes were hidden by darkened eyelids and light, even breathing escaped her lips in silent flutters. Her body was lounged horizontally on tree's root, thin in size and shape as it dipped in curved bend in to the swamp below. Other tree roots connected and slid around the shape of her sleeping spot, as large bullrushes and weeds covered her surroundings, and lilypads dappled the water under her.
No creature swam or flew near the sleeping lupe, not even a bird would nest in the branches above. Perhaps they knew that she was ticking timebomb if awoken, a firecracker that was waiting to sizzle and crackle. She smiled at the mere thought, and her mind lumbered into a deeper sense of sub-concious, welcoming the washing waves of sleep with no dreams. A gate to escape reality, and enter one of her own.
A strange thing, that she never dreamed. Dreams, were random fragments of her mind, but nothing entered the dark abyss she rested in while she slept, nothing. Sometimes, she would smell meadowgrass, and when she was younger, she would hear her mother's voice in her ear, and a smile connected to a russet wolf, but those dreams faded away with time.
Deeper, deeper, she sank, floating peacefully away until something hooked onto her fur. Her dreaming self frowned, and started to struggle, and the hook that maliciously appeared in her fur, yanked harder until she flying, flying upwards out of the shadows and back to the land of living. Ears flickering, and eyes stretched in anger, she struggled to her paws, snarling on the way up. Lingering on her branch, she sighed, and bounced from root another, leaving them shaking slightly.
Stealth and careful eyes made for the perfect gaurd, and she used that to her advantage now, stalking in silence with her only give away, bared teeth and sharp eyes. However, such a fierce expression disappeared from her face as she tilted her head to the right and her eyebrow stretched upwards in a raise. Houston, we have an idiot in the swamp. She thought to herself, before changing it as she continued to watch. an idiot or someone trying to commit suicide. She pondered this, while she looked at his coat, black on one side, white on the other. It was rather handsome looking, but there were no scars that she could see, no blemish either.
Whatever. Edging forwards, Renn looked to her right and pounced onto a rather thin and frail root that raised from the underwater in a perfect 'C' shape before bending downwards back into the water. There she stood, balancing and swaying, lithe and agile for one so lazy before she finally spoke up. What the hell are you doing? |

The water lapped pleasantly at his belly, as Half-Moon quested about in the bleakness. Then he heard a voice ask what the hell he was doing. Half-Moon's eyes popped opened, and he snorted out bubbles, startled, at the sound of the voice. He looked up, dripping, and spotted someone on a long bent root that dipped into the water.
"Hello," he said, then sneezed violently. Twice. He shook his head, and looked back up at the wolf to get a better look. It was a greyish she-wolf, who watched him with cool , blue eyes. "I'm fishing," he said, in answer to her question. He would've thought that was obvious. "Except, I haven't seen any fish yet. Have you seen a fish?" Almost immediately after asking, Half-Moon saw a flicker of movement in the water. He cried out, "Fish!" and he dove, face first into the water, snapping wildly in the murk. His teeth met only mud and grass stems.
After snapping and thrashing around for a few seconds, Half-Moon resurfaced, now throughly soaked. "False alarm," he announced. "I think it was just a dead branch." He slapped the water with a paw, and watched the ripples spread out.
He looked up plaintively at the newcomer, wet and bedraggled. His expression was slightly apologetic. Did he accidentally splash her? He had only been trying to catch the fish; maybe he should've been a little less enthusiastic. He wagged his tail, skimming over the top of the water, a little unsure.
OOC: Grrr. I can't seem to write at all today! Sorry! Enjoy Half-Moon's crazy fishing antics!

She narrowed her eyes, as this boy's behauviour confirmed her thoughts. idiot. Fishing, with his head in the water. Obviously, the boy wasn't hitting all corners, because the fish would see his reflection in the water, and the way he stuck his snout in, and pulled out, meant he was making bubbles, causing the fish disturbance. He was fighting a losing battle.
She shook her head, disappointed, amused and a whole bunch of other emotions that were confusing and that Renn was avoiding. Sliding fdown the branch, that was threatening to crack and send her into the watery abyss below, he landed on another root that jutted out, near the wolf then she had been before, at his eye-level as well. Again, he snuffed his snout into the water with such joy, when he came up with disappointment, she couldn't help but feel disappointed too. The stranger certainly had a charismatic point on people, or perhaps it was a strange form of pity.
Until the water droplets splattered her in the face, and catching on her eyelids. She did not have to wake up for this.
Renn, of course, frowning as they slid down her face, was a firm believer in exact revenge. This boy had splashed her and and she, in return, shall splash him. Perhaps it was childish, but her heart ached to make him more wet and beraggled then ever before. Sniffing, she turned and with a flick of her tail, she dismissed him, before turning sharply, running before leaping into the water and landing barely tail's length away, splashing her stomach, but the water that she had focused, sprouted upwards like a fountain and she hoped, that the wolf with half of white would become more pathetic than before. Perhaps it was a cruel thought, but when she grinned beneath a wet muzzle, it was a satisfying thought indeed.

He watched as she turned away from him, nose turned up, and he felt a little bad. It wasn't his intention to offend her. But he didn't know what to say to her to bring her back. Half-Moon glanced at the water, feeling a little sorry for himself.
Suddenly, she came charging back out of the underbrush, launched herself off the thick root, and came down with a crash and a splash, right on top of him. Overtaken by her wave, Half-Moon was quickly drenched, even more so then before, if that was possible. He sat up shaking water from his ears.
Hey! Half-Moon thought, this wolf knows how to have fun! He looked over at the she-wolf, who was now almost as wet as he was. He smiled a wolfy smile."Now you're all wet too!" he laughed, sloshing the water around. She looked awfully silly with her fluffy coat plastered to her body. He decided to introduce himself. "I'm..." wait, he couldn't remember. He started again,"My name is..." ...thing in the sky... it's round. Oh yes! "Half-Moon, my name is Half-Moon." Whew, that would've been embarrassing. "Sorry if I splashed you." He kicked up some water with his snout at her. "Are you fishing too?" he asked, whereby he stuck his nose in the water and bubbles came out. He shook his head up, snorting.

She twitched her ears and rolled her eyes. no shit sherlock. But she didn't dare say it aloud. Instead, she chuckled as he sloshed forward. It was the motion of the waves that licked him hungrily, plowing through the water with difficulty. Instead of moving out of the water, she merely stood, lowering her head to lick at her fur once or twice before raising her head, lifting an eyebrow.
For a moment, she froze. What? He didn't know? Renn raised her head, staring. She really didn't believe in the whole god thing. Sure, there was someone out to get there. There was heaven for her mother, and hell for her father, and she would sit right next to him, expecting to play cards with the devil, or so she always thought. But she couldn't deny there was something out there, causing the people to forget who or where they were, something snatching up memories, and that made her uneasy.
Renn. Call me Renn. |
She said smoothly, or as smooth as she could make it. It seemed to crack under pressure once the confused idiot shoved his nose back under the water. Lucky fish, unlucky fool. The wolf's thoughts flew to her previous ones, far too damn happy to be suicidal, or he was one of those happy emos. Nah, probably not. So, she had to conclude, his lights are on, but nobody's home. Surprisingly enough, she could live with that. Nah, i'm not one for er.. sporting games. Renn said, peering over Halfmoon's shoulder, slightly confused on how on hell this was going to result a fish. You tell me, though, when you've caught one. Renn said casually, stepping over to her right, away from the wolf, where she could see bubbles float from where he had stuck his muzzle in the water. Half-Moon looked up at her curiously. "Wren? Why would I call you 'Wren'? That's a bird." Half-Moon cocked his head. "Oh!" he said, realization dawning on him. "Oh, Renn, that's your name. Oops, I - FISH!" He dove into the water after the shadow.
After sloshing around for a bit with his front totally submerged, his tail like a buoy that waved back and forth, Half-Moon surfaced - empty-mouthed, again. "Nice to met you," he continued. "My name's Half-Moon." He hadn't already said that, had he? He stared at the water for a few minutes, utterly oblivious to anything else she said.
Half-Moon stood very still, focusing very hard on the still, murky surface of the water. He breathed very slowly, waiting for that tell-tale shadow. This time would be it. This time he would... "Dragonfly!" He ran after the quick shimmering dart.
He pushed through the water in a strange half-hop, galloping toward his prey, causing bedlam to the quiet marshes. Oh, I love dragonflies! Almost as much as butterflies! Laughing, the black-and-white wolf reached the iridescent little fellow and chased him around in tight circles, until Half-Moon found himself sitting on his tail. The fearless dragonfly lighted down on nose.
"Hello, little brother," he said to it, crossing his eyes in order to look at it. "Renn!" he called. "I found a dragonfly! He's so handsome! Like a tiny rainbow! Come see!" I wish I had wings like that, Half-Moon sighed. He tried to uncross his eyes to see what the other wolf was doing.

As she waded through the water, she watched as Half-Moon pondered her name. How many times did she have to go through this? It took some strength not to snap at the wolf, and she felt teeth gnaw the inside of her cheek. She rolled her eyes and shuttered them behind scarred eyelids, before nodding, hoping and knowing that would wolf would be able to figure it out on his own.
She couldn't help but want to get inside his brain, understand the loose ties of his mind, a child's really. And to think, when Renn looked at him, she saw someone older. She frowned as he dunked his head into the water before fishing it out, not disappointed by his lack of prey, but merely moving onto his other fancy. If that had been Renn trying out the trick, she would have snarled in frustration, attacked the water with anger, cursing up a storm to rival a hurricane's power before stalking away to sleep and forget that she had even tried. It was hard to tell if Renn admired the wolf or wanted to snap the innocence out of him.
She continued to think as she trailed after him as he splashed and chased and laughed. When was the last time she laughed? Was she ever a pup? No, her father never her let her have the chance. Riot tried to encourage her, but her father's words stung at her, and she never played. Only when her brother disappeared, did she try to live and screw things up, not because of her brother's words, but the lack of concentration and seriousness ticked off her father. No praise, only a silent nod of approval. the closest Renn had ever come to loving her father.
So she looked to her right, her left, before she smiled and waded over. This wolf, whatever age, was easy going and she did not reckonise him from the ranks of Paradox. She could easily disappear from this scenery, like a hollow memory. Perhaps a chance to have the childhood she saw in bumbling pups, but never had the chance to try.
She looked closer, trying not to startle the bug and she saw it. the tiny spectrum of light, dancing of the thin light blue membranes of the dragonfly's wings. She let out a low breath, tickling the underside of the dragonfly causing it to take off and head in her direction in a frenzied flying. It took a mere few seconds for Renn to react, first dumbfounded before gasping in shock ad flying backwards. Hitting a small hole in the swamp, she went under letting the dragonfly zip on by. Jumping back to the surface and feet on more shallow shores, she spit swamp water from her mouth an growled, damp and cold and paws aching. She know remembered that why she hated children and young, stupid people. Because when was around them stupid stuff always happened to her.
”Great. just great.” |
She snarled, shaking the water from her fur, although that really didn't help her at, when she was standing to her stomach in the dank, dirty water. [/blockquote]
